We want to keep you informed about an incident resulting in downtime of JoeApp earlier today.
What happened
This morning, an outage on AWS's CloudFront service caused traffic routing failures to our loyalty platform backend, resulting in complete downtime for the affected services for approximately 2 hours and 17 minutes.
Root cause
The outage was caused by an AWS-side failure in CloudFront's routing to VPC Origins. This was not caused by any changes on our side. AWS have since confirmed the underlying issue is resolved on their end.
Current status
All services are fully operational and service metrics have returned to normal.
Next steps
We are conducting a full post-incident review, including root cause analysis and corrective actions to reduce the impact of similar third-party infrastructure failures in the future. We will share findings with relevant stakeholders.
